STUDIO POLICIES
Danswest strives to be successful and to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for everyone.
We ask that all students and parents adhere to the policies.
REGISTRATION: Each student is required to register prior to the first class. Forms are available in the office and
must be signed by a parent if the student is under the age of 18. There is a $15 registration fee for general class enrollment
and there is an additional $25 fee for Performance Group members. Company members have a $100 registration fee.
Class placement is based upon the student's previous experience. We may ask a dancer with previous experience to participate
in a level lower than their current level so that technique may be evaluated, as dance studios differ in syllabus and requirements.
The Director reserves the right to move dancers accordingly for the best interest of each student.

CLASS SCHEDULES: The schedule is based on anticipated enrollment and may change at any time. Please call prior to attending
class for the first time for verification. Class placement is determined by the instructor and might require a short audition.
For help regarding placement, please call. Fees will be pro-rated if you start in the middle of a month. Class schedules are
available on the web site and at the office. Teachers are also subject to change on occasion.
ATTENDANCE: Dance is a discipline unto its own and requires regular attendance. Be on time for class as attendance
is taken. Come dressed in the correct attire. A student who is more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed to take the
class because they will have missed the warm up session, which is important to prevent injury. If a parent is late picking
you up, do not leave the building. Wait in the lobby until your ride arrives. Danswest is not responsible for students who
leave the premises for any reason. Parents please deliver and pick up the students on time- remember- we like to go home
too!!
MAKE-UP LESSONS/MISSED CLASSES: Please call if your child must miss a class. Your instructor will be happy to give
you a make-up time. This make-up class must be taken within three (3) weeks after the missed class. There are no carry-overs,
refunds or pro-rated fees due to missed classes due to illness or other attendance problems.
A class, which is cancelled by the studio, will be rescheduled. Monthly tuition must be current for you to hold your place
in class, regardless of missed classes.
A doctor’s release is required for an injured dancer to return to class. This applies to a non-dance related injury
as well.
The studio reserves the right to drop a dancer from a class or routine for excessive tardiness or absenteeism. Excessive
is missing 3 or more classes prior to a performance, recital or competition.
TRIAL CLASSES: One trial class has a $12.00 fee. This fee will be applied to your first month’s tuition once
you have registered. There are no free trial classes, however a parent may observe a class at no charge. An appointment can
be made with the instructor.
PARENT VIEWING: Parents are allowed in the classroom the very first day of classes. Thereafter, parents only will be
allowed in class during specific observation times set up by the Director. Dancers learn the most in an environment free from
distractions. All students need to be focused in the classroom. Exceptions, with the approval of the teacher, are made for
pre-schoolers who need additional time to feel comfortable and secure.
PRE-SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS: We accept students at age 2-1/2 if they are toilet trained and can count to eight (8). Parents
must use their own discretion when it comes to participation and social skills with other children. Working with your child
at home on how to take direction from teachers and standard class decorum is helpful
PICTURES AND VIDEOTAPING: We do not allow videotaping of any class . Pictures are allowed only before and after classes,
with the instructor’s permission. Videotaping will be allowed during the recital rehearsal only. No videotaping is allowed
at the recital. We have a professional video company taping the recital and the tape/DVD is available for purchase.
STUDIO HOLIDAYS: Danswest will be closed during the following holidays:
Labor Day, (Mon. September 4)
Thanksgiving, (Thurs. Nov. 23 thru Sun. Nov. 26);
Christmas (Dec. 24 thru Jan 1)
Memorial Day ( Mon. May 28)
and the 4th of July.
CLASS BEHAVIOR: Be polite and courteous to your instructors and classmates at all times. Physical and verbal abuse
of others will not be tolerated. Misuse of studio property is not allowed. Please do not play with the stereo equipment, the
gymnastics equipment, or other props. Gum is not allowed in the classroom as it is a choking hazard. Please use the restroom
before class. If a dancer is disruptive and repeatedly asked to behave, he/she may be asked to leave the classroom and wait
in the lobby until the end of class.
DRESS CODE: All students are expected to maintain the dress code as part of the dance discipline. Attend class in the
proper dance attire.
ALL FEMALE STUDENTS MUST WEAR TIGHTS AND A LEOTARD (with the exception of hip hop dancers) Dance skirts,
shorts, capris, or pants may be worn over your tights and leotard at the discretion of the instructor for tap, jazz, modern,
and musical theater classes.
Long hair must be worn up and away from the face with bangs clipped back (unless otherwise desired by the instructor).
Hair must be in a bun for ballet.
Male Dancers must wear form fitting attire that does not hide the body. Tights will be worn in ballet (these may be
purchased at the studio or online as they are not sold in local stores)
All dancers must wear the appropriate footwear for that class
Please label all items with your name in case something is left behind. Please see the instructor before buying new dance
shoes as shoe requirements may change. Any deviation from the dress code may result in the dancer not being able to actively
participate in the class.
RECITAL: Danswest holds an annual Spring Recital in May. Each dancer will be required to pay a production fee of
$40 in addition to a costume fee. Four(4) tickets to the event are included free in the production cost and any addition
tickets are $5.00. More information about the recital will be available later in the season.
PERFORMANCE GROUP: The Danswest Performance group gives more performance opportunities to those who are interested.
The Danswest Performance Group will perform with the Danswest Dance Company at local shows, including: Christmas Mall shows
at Tucson, El Con, and Park Place Mall, charity events, private parties, the 4th Avenue Street Fair, and school events. Auditions
for performance group take place Saturday, September 10th for the fall. Students may choose to perform in either jazz, tap,
ballet, or hip-hop. Ask for more details.
THE DANSWEST DANCE COMPANY: This group is for students who demonstrate exceptional talent and ability in dance in
jazz, ballet, tap and modern dance. Accelerated classes in all dance forms are taught, thus developing skills for local and
national performance and competition opportunities. Please talk to the Director for additional information. Students
are chosen via invitation and/or audition.
